When considering enrollment into a new termite control service, being able to identify signs of termite presence is crucial. Discarded wings are one of the clearest signs of termite presence. You might discover them in spider webs, on windowsills, or near lights. Even when such obvious signs are absent, termites may still be present. Here are some things to look for:

• Blistered Appearance on Wood
  On your wood furniture or building, you may notice a blister-like rash, as if something is burrowing just below the surface of the wood. One of the best ways to tell if it’s termites is to tap the wood surface with your screwdriver and listen for a hollow pop.
• Pellet Piles
  Piles of tiny pellets, smaller than a grain of rice, ranging in color from brown to black to reddish-brown, can definitely indicate the presence of termites.
• Sightings of Insects with Wings
  While some types of ants also have wings, termites look very different. They have a thicker waist than ants and have straight antennae. If an insect has a uniform length of wings, it is likely to be a termite. Ants have wings of different lengths, and their hind wings are shorter.
• Swarming and Flying
  During the mating season, the termites swarm and intensify their activity as they fly in search of female termites. This usually happens at the end of spring and during the summer months. You will see termites in the vicinity of porch lights, television, and lamps.
