Size: ~22 to 29 mm

Characteristics: Medium-sized. Has leathery forewings. Hind wings are shorter than forewings. Cannot fly. Distinctive forelegs have two sharp claws. 

Locations: Coastal regions. Sandy soils, grassland, fields, verges, turf, and lawns.

Southern Mole Cricket

Name: 𝘕𝘦𝘰𝘴𝘤𝘢𝘱𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘤𝘶𝘴 𝘣𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘪

Size: ~25 to 32 mm

Characteristics:  Fairly large. Forelegs have two sharp claws. Hind wings are longer than the abdomen. Calls with a low-pitched trill within two hours of sunset.

Locations:  Lives in shallow burrows in sandy soil. Causes damage to lawns, pastures, golf courses, and cultivated plants.

Tawny Mole Cricket
