Dampwood Termite

Name: 𝘕𝘦𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘤𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘦𝘶𝘴

Size: ~14 to 19 mm

Characteristics: Generally larger compared to other termite types. Cream colored body with darker head. Relatively large head compared to body. Swarmer has wings for reproductive purposes.

Locations: Thrives in coastal regions with high levels of humidity and moisture and proximity to bodies of water. Found in forested regions due to ample access to moist wood sources: fallen trees, decaying logs, stumps, etc. Loves moist environments and may infest structures that have moisture problems (leaky roofs, plumbing issues, or inadequate ventilation).

Drywood Termite

Name: 𝘊𝘳𝘺𝘱𝘵𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘤𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘴

Size: ~6 to 10 mm

Characteristics: Pale, cream-colored body. Slightly darker head compared to rest of body. Soft body with no distinct waist. Same width from head to abdomen. Swarmer has two pairs of translucent wings.

Locations: Found in tropical and subtropical climates where temperatures remain relatively high throughout the year. Found in residential homes, commercial buildings, wooden furniture, fences, utility poles, and other wooden structures.

Eastern Subterranean Termite

Name: 𝘙𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘧𝘭𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘱𝘦𝘴

Size: ~3.2 mm

Characteristics: Worker has soft body, no wings,  and creamy-white appearance. Solider has larger head compared to body, and strong black jaws. Swarmer is only member of colony with fully functional wings.

Locations: Warm and humid climates. Mostly in subtropical and tropical regions. Found in soil and wooden structures. Infests houses, buildings, fences, utility poles, dead tree stumps, and wooden furniture. Often found in areas with high humidity levels: basements, crawl spaces, and areas with plumbing leaks or water damage.

Formosan Termite

Name: 𝘊𝘰𝘱𝘵𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘢𝘯𝘶𝘴

Size: ~12 to 15 mm

Characteristics: Wings with numerous small hairs. Soldier has orange-brown, oval-shaped head with curved mandibles. Worker is creamy white and lacks wings.

Locations: Tropical and subtropical regions. Hollows out wood in houses, buildings, fences, utility poles, and wooden furniture.
