Acrobat ants are found all over Florida and the southeastern United States. There are about ten (10) species in Florida. They like to feed on the sweet Honeydew left behind from shrub insects like Aphids and Scale. They like to nest outdoors in old dead wood, rotten wood, firewood. They also like to nest in the holes of trees, the base of shrubbery, especially if it has a lot of old mulch or tree leaves piled up around the base. Acrobat ants are uncommon indoors, but they have been know to crawl into buildings around windows and electrical cables. Once inside, they can nest in attic insulation and wall voids. Indoor nesting could indicate the presence of a water leak or rotten wood.
