The first thing a mosquito seeks when it lands is a “blood meal,” which female mosquitoes suck from humans and animals to reproduce and obtain energy. Our blood provides proteins, amino acids, and iron to hatchlings which is essential for their growth. It also helps immature mosquitoes progress through their life stages.

Mosquitoes tend to prefer moist environments, particularly in stagnant water. You may not know where nearby water sources lie, but mosquitoes have a way of figuring them out.

Items like flower pots left outside in the rain, old tires, kiddie pools, pet dishes, and bird baths accumulate water and become breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

In the wild, mosquitoes favor ponds, rivers, and creeks to reproduce.

Mosquitoes are also quite efficient at multiplying at record speeds. A lone female mosquito can lay as many as 500 eggs at a time!
