What Dangers Do Bees Pose to Humans?
- Bees are generally non-aggressive and harmless unless they are provoked. If they sting you, they can cause serious harm to your body. This can happen if you agitate a bee or bee hive. Their venom is usually not toxic and only causes localized pain and swelling.
If you have an allergic reaction to bee venom, the immune system will produce antibodies to fight off the reaction. This is called anaphylaxis. Some of the symptoms of an anaphylactic reaction include:
- Weak vital signs
- Sudden drop in blood pressure
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Headache
- Fever
- Lightheadedness
- Seizure
Honeybee stings can be fatal to humans if the venom in a bee’s sting causes an allergic reaction or if there are multiple stings. If an allergic reaction occurs, the person will go into anaphylactic shock.
What to Do if You Encounter a Beehive
The last thing you want to do is try to get rid of the hive on your own. Even if you believe the hive is empty or abandoned, you should contact us to remove it.
If you ignore a hive, that hive may break down and form more colonies. A new colony may also decide to settle near your home. Soon, you will have several bee hives in close proximity to your home, increasing the risk to you and your family. This will also increase the cost and complexity of removal down the line.
Always take immediate action. Although honey bees are essential for the health of the environment, you should not tolerate a hive anywhere near your home. A simple phone call to Termite Lawn and Pest will eliminate that threat.
